- First stab at a document that identifies
- Our purpose and basic strategy
- Some quick fixes for 175th for current traffic
- What we support long term to avoid additional traffic problem
- Fran to send this out by this weekend to the working group for fleshing in
- The working group needs to respond by email so we can get agreement by next Wednesday
- First stab at by-laws for the organization

- Timeline
- Wednesday, September 24 -- approval of purpose and recommendation document, and by-laws
- Review of purpose and recommendations with key representatives like Suzanne Bonamici (US Rep) and Dick Schouten (county commissioner) in person
- Early to mid-October -- 2 meetings (due to venue size limit) with larger group to review recommendations and get people to sign into plan At this meeting we would:
- *** Introduce who the 175th Neighborhood Association is
- *** What we’re about (our mission)
- *** Present our recommendations
- *** Obtain votes to prioritize and get buy-in
- *** Obtain signatures of householders who agree to be represented
- Pre-staffing of recommendations with Beaverton and Washington County planners individually in person
- November 5 -- Short presentation to Beaverton planning Commission
- Fran to put link to Beaverton Land Use Planning Handbook on the Save175th.org website
- We agreed we should keep communication with the 260-household Sterling Park homeowner committee as there is synergy there (but not total alignment)
- Soren met with a couple of lawyers who had some specific recommendations for us (which we all agreed with):
- Focus on Washington County as they control the transportation routes (and dollars)
- Pre-staff planners and officials before going into planning commision meetings
- Go in with a positive attitude (non-angry, non-confrontational)
- We should meet with Suzanne Bonamici at least once and keep her cc'd, but not request intervention with Beaverton
- She is already being contacted separately by Kathy Cobb re mailbox placement along 175th.
- Does Suzanne have any clout re federal highway $?
- Prioritize the message and action we want relative to 175th and push only the highest priorities. A laundry list could be a turn-off
- We want to produce a single letter with LOTS of signatures. We crafted a VERY high-level of this document and the possible framework for the presentations to follow
- Problem statement: current situation (and aggravation with development)
- What we need regarding 175th
- Short Term
- Long Term
- alternative artery west of Cooper Mountain rather than 175th (which is inadequate and dangerous to be a main artery due to the grade and narrowness)
- Lower density housing on top of Cooper Mountain
- Hand-carry and discuss with key people (Schouten, Bonamici, planners, mayor). 2 people from different households should be at each meeting asking the officials for advice on how best to proceed.
- Present this at the Beaverton (and later Hillsboro) planning meeting also.
- Soren will find out whether there are state rules about roads with 13-14% grades serving as major arteries
- Soren will find out the right people to talk to between our large meeting in October and before the November 5 Beaverton planning meeting.
- Fran will set up a 10-15 minute meeting with Dick Schouten
- A major purpose of the 2 group meetings in October are to have additional households sign up with agreement and being represented
- All - please log into doodle, com and indicate your availability for the October meetings. It's important to have a significant presence to encourage others.
- We need to put together a sign-up sheet for people with names, physical addresses and email addresses. The idea is for this to be like signing a petition where the signors are agreeing with statements on the cover page.
- The organization has been established as a nonprofit with the Oregon Business Registry. We do need a board of directors and by-laws in order to register as a federal nonprofit (this is required). Initially, we have the following four board members (since we were the only ones at the meeting and thus the only ones who could volunteer). Please let us know any other volunteers and recommendations for additional board members. Since the proposed by-laws have a November through October fiscal year, we will have a chance to vote on permanent board members next month.
- *** President - Fran Warren
- *** Vice-President - Sam Louke
- *** Secretary/Treasurer - Ira Warren (right now, no money is envisioned so the Treasurer part is hopefully moot)
- *** At large - Soren Vestergaard
