This is from Tualatin Riverkeepers - and their efforts to move the new high school away from SCM - due to threat to wetlands & Clean Water issues. My opinion is also that the many ball fields are a real noise & light threat to the wildlife due to proximity. And the school grounds traverse the wildlife corridors posing a threat to their migrating patterns to the river - I have seen no construction of the "obligatory" Wildlife Crossings per Metro. We need our supporters to: a) attend the Feb 12 High School Mtg b) follow the wetlands blog (and sign petitions) as this is an important vehicle to help us in our challenge of the High School. Thanks, Fran "The concept plan, which serves as a long-term guide for development in the South Cooper Mountain area, lists out 13 actions that should take place moving forward. The actions, led mostly by the city, range from further code amendments that need to be adopted, to designing the east-west collector road to Loon Drive..."
Read the full article here. You will be reading about this information in the local newspapers, so Save175th wants you to read “it” from us first – and what we’ve been doing to work the issues regarding our road.
1) We were denied our request to lower the speed limit – quick turnaround - but we are not giving up. Matter of fact – this gives us more to challenge. See the attachment. 2) Roger Henderson presented our issues at the Washington County Board of Commissioners Meeting (see his testimony attached) – Save175th representatives are constantly speaking on behalf of our neighbors regarding 175th in many different official arenas. Kay also testified at the Meeting. 3) Kim Kollie, another wonderful member of our team, along with Rich Kollie and Roger Staver, a Save175th lead, also showed support at the Commissioners’ Meeting – Kim wrote up excellent notes (attached) – though these have not been edited. Kim’s perception is that “..Kinda Good News from the meeting at Wash Co. today…” We will post the URL for the official Minutes of the meeting on our website, www.Save175th.org, when they are available. All of these documents will also be posted on our website. Thanks again for your support – we want to keep you informed. Fran While not directly tied to our efforts around preserving 175th, development efforts around North Cooper Mountain are sure to have an impact. Read more here:

I will address these 2 issues separately..."
You can review the full text of Fran's drafted comment form at this link. Kathy Cobb will be presenting testimony on behalf of Save175th Neighborhood Association:
BEAVERTON CITY COUNCIL CITY COUNCIL CHAMBER THE BEAVERTON BUILDING 12725 SW MILLIKAN WAY BEAVERTON, OR 97005 South Cooper Mountain Concept Plan Acknowledgement and Community Plan Adoption (Planning Manager Steven Sparks) For more information: http://beaverton.granicus.com/GeneratedAgendaViewer.php?view_id=2&event_id=595 Thank you for your indicated interest in our mission: The reasonable preservation of 175th as a functional route for existing residents.
We have 3 very important updates for you – we will also be posting these on our website and we will be sending separate emails with the details on each: 1) YOUR INFLUENCE: Save175th Neighborhood Association is having significant influence on decision-making in several Washington County organizations, while not necessarily on the City of Beaverton as yet. We will be sending you an email detailing our interactions with County officials and the projects you’ve requested that have been turned over to transportation engineers with our help – awaiting funding. 2) KEMMER RIDGE: There is a new 61-home development planned for the field and hillside to the North of TVF&R Fire Station #69 – just south of the intersection of Kemmer and 175th. This plat was zoned R-6 in the early 1980’s and had been left idle until now. The developer was directed to meet with Save175th and CPO6 (Ray Eck) to review the preliminary plans which he did, on Monday, 22 December. Kim Kollie graciously agreed to be the project leader for Save175th - to follow this project, to try to defer as much of the potential traffic impacts as possible. Kim attended this preliminary meeting as well. We will send out the official detail plans as soon as we receive them. But it is noteworthy to point out that the developer presented to us at this meeting, that they are planning to use 175th on the south side of the Fire Station as the exit for this 61 home development – this is change from a “reported” former plan. There will be a lot design sign posted soon on the property and neighborhood meetings announced sometime in January. 3) NEW HIGH SCHOOL: Beaverton City School District (BSD), https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/, is planning on building a new high school at the corner of 175th and Scholls Ferry Road. We have always pledged to not publish anything until it is officially validated so as not to cause any undue alarm for existing residents. But this particular project requires citizen action early - and often - and Save175th will be asking each of you for your (written) voice in a separate email – we are asking you to please read that email and respond as instructed (if you agree to its contents) so we may present it to the Beaverton Planning Commission and the Superintendent of Schools of Beaverton School District before 15 January. AFFECTS US ALL: this school could very likely bring up to 1000 additional cars on 175th each morning – with approximately 60% of those cars coming from the North of the school - ALSO 1000 cars going out each evening when school gets out as well! This is a BIG DEAL because BSD current plans depict ALL of the school’s access roads dump out onto 175th!! Save175th had 5 visible representatives at the BSD Open House on 17 December meeting (Oregonian reported there were only about 30 people there in total!). We have our own excellent writeup of the meeting including some alarming numbers (but not yet validated) – and we will send this report in a separate email and post the information on our website. We will post the BSD validated information as soon as it is published. This school is slated to open in 2017 and to projected to be larger than Westview. Here is the URL for the Oregonian article: http://www.oregonlive.com/beaverton/index.ssf/2014/12/school_boundaries_and_traffic.html. At the December Beaverton Planning Commission Meeting, the BSD was directed to apply for R-1 zoning for this property – we strongly recommend that Save175th make a significant showing at all future presentations by this High School! Note: there are several organizations lobbying objections to this particular site for this High School based on its location: the ball fields are intrusively close to the designated wetlands and also causing potential Clean Water Act issues and, at least one County Commissioner is extremely sensitive to the overtrafficking of 175th – especially at Scholls Ferry. If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you again for your time and for your caring about your neighbors’ safety and quality of life. Take Good Care, Fran Warren Chair, Save175th Neighborhood Association. |
