Sam Louke, Save175th’s representative to CPO6 presented Kim Kollie’s traffic accident data received from TVF&R highlighting the injury crashes on 175th (click here to review). It got everyone’s attention at the CPO6 meeting, including the Sheriff’s Ofc representative (Darlene Schnoor) who was there. Sam told of the 2 crashes in one weekend in early January and Eric reported that there was a 3-car crash in front of the dog park on Tuesday this week. Sam also mentioned a 30,000 ft overview report we received in response to our request for reducing the speed limit on 175th. This brief traffic engineer study showed 85% of the traffic was travelling between 52-57mph on 175th and thus did not warrant a reduction in speed limit as Oregon law states that speed limits are based on basic driver comfort speeds. We will be posting those detail Histograms on our website shortly.
Sam requested that the Sheriff’s Office create a map for traffic crashes since the TVF&R data only represents when they are called in for potential serious injury accidents. Darlene will go back to the office and see if they can get that data for us.
In addition, we will see an increased effort to enforce the speed limit. Our neighbors will be caught in this enforcement and we need to obey the limit ourselves. This speed enforcement is a double-edged sword, but is in the best interest and safety of everyone. Please note that there are also officers on the north side of 175th with speed detectors monitoring cars going too fast down there. So please be careful.
LUT Director, Andrew Singelakis, informs us that there is also a project underway to provide speed feedback for cars entering “the kink” to reduce speeds there and also a project underway to provide a signal to cars at the Rigert intersection to identify when cars are approaching around that bend. No dates have been given, but we are working with Washington County to continue to improve the safety on 175th. We will update you as soon as we get validated information and we thank you for your continued your patient support.
